The Caddo Nation Today

The Caddo Nation is federally recognized and their home is Binger, Oklahoma.  Binger is 62 miles southwest of Norman, Oklahoma - home of the University of Oklahoma.  There are approximately 5,290 Caddo.  Many live in Oklahoma but not all.  They are spread across the country.

On July 31, 1859, the Caddo were forced off the Brazos Indian Reservation in northwest Texas.  The march to Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) took two weeks.  It took until 1902 for the Caddo to get land designated for them.  (Canvas Module 5.4)

Many Caddo still farm just as their ancestors did but using modern tools and equipment. (Texas Beyond History, n.d.)  Caddo have the same skills as the rest of the country but they also retain their heritage.  Learning their history is just one of the many ways children of the Caddo Nation are taking their heritage into the future.
